Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...

As the song goes, and as Julie Andrews sings in 'The Sound of Music', I am going to stop and list some of my favorite things about my Miss Maggie and Biggie Ben.

Maggie is three now. And these are a few of my favorite things about her. She is a bundle of energy. Blond, blue-eyed and full of questions. She creates as much frustration for us as joy lately. A fine balance in the art of being a precocious pre-k'er. She asks why a lot. We are always asking her to put on her 'listening hat' to make sure she is understanding our demands; such as 'it's time for bed Maggie', 'it's time to go potty Maggie', and 'don't push your brother Maggie'. She has perfected the art of not listening by telling us she left her listening hat at the park or at her Nona's. She gets exasperated with her parents, and rules, and the nuisance of well-rounded meals. She loves to dance to the opening songs of her favorite TV shows and finds the most joy in tiny little figures and stuffed animals and the play world she places them in. She has mostly given up napping, much to our and her teachers dismay, and fights bedtime with a litany of excuses, like needing more water, fixing the fan, and needing; one more show, one more book, one more song, and for us to "soft her arm".

These are a few of my favorite things about Biggie Ben. He is a massive force with kind eyes and a toothy grin. The poor guy has been riddled with teething ailments but is mainly a happy little boy who loves to kick balls around the living room. His favorite words are ball and apple. And has a voracious appetite for both. He bothers his sister but melts the hearts of his parents and grandparents. He loves his Papa John and when we get in the car to go places, he stares out the window and repeats 'Papa, Papa' over and over again, thinking we must be going to visit him. He went from walking at 12 months to running by 15 months and is always doing so in the opposite direction of his frantic family. He is already into 18-24 month clothing and boasts a hearty appetite and a reluctance to give up bottles. He was a Daddy's boy until recently when he came back to the Mommy-side, much to my delight! He goes to bed a little easier than his sister but wakes up on the early side of 4:45 am on average, and since Mommy is NOT a morning person, these early wakings often become Ben and Daddy bonding time.

We went apple picking this weekend with our friends John and Deb and their son Jonathan. It was such a great time. We picked pears and apples and ate apple cider donuts, caramel apples, and warm cider. The delights of fall are only sweeter through the eyes of your children. How lucky we are.

So, on to a variety of photos to show this wonderful life with Maggie and Ben that we live in.
